World building codes leaders will meet in Barcelona on occasion of the World Sustainable Building Conference WSB14

19/02/2014 - Next October, Barcelona will host not only the World Sustainable Building Conference, which will take place on the 28th, 29th and 30th October 2014 but, furthermore, the city will become the meeting point of an important number of international associations who, taking advantage of this global gathering, are organising their General Assemblies and working meetings here.

19/02/2014

The latest association to confirm their presence is the Inter-Jurisdictional Regulatory Collaboration Committee IRCC, which groups the main leaders of technical building codes worldwide. The focus of the IRCC is to advance, at an international level, framework, guidance, and support documents on construction-related regulatory environment issues; pursuing common understanding of the international regulatory environment towards sustainability; promoting the exchange of information between its members.

As well as holding their Autumn meeting in the same venue as World SB14 Barcelona, the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, the IRCC will take part in a Conference session, presenting their latest works and advances achieved in creating a common international framework in building, offering clues on how building regulations must evolve towards higher levels of sustainability in building.

WSB14 Barcelona encourages debate on LinkedIn

19/02/2014 - One of the goals of World Sustainable Building 2014 Barcelona Conference is to become a meeting and reflection point between building sector professionals – architects, developers, industry, universities and administrations -, encouraging the debate around relevant topics such as energy efficiency, urban planning or CO2 emissions reduction.

19/02/2014

Aiming to generate excitement and promote the exchange of opinions towards the global gathering, World Sb14 Barcelona has opened its scope through the internet platform LinkedIn and opening a debate group where these topics can be discussed. In English, the official language of the Conference, the group brings forth arguments, news and thoughts, seeking interaction with its followers. Thus, the month of January saw work starting towards the need to move to more sustainable concepts in building, fast.

Rules
Links to the building sector – in any of its aspects – and obtaining authorization from the group administrator are the only requirements needed to become part of the debate group.
Any topic or question can be launched, as long as it is related to the Conference contents. Promotional or advertising texts will not be admitted. The group administrator will revise each of the proposals before authorising their publication.
English is the official language.
The most interesting questions gathered in this platform will be conveyed to the Conference Sessions as items delivered by the audience.
Together with this new idea exchanging model, we must not forget that the World Sustainable Building 2014 Barcelona Conference already counts on social media profiles such as Facebook (World SB14 Barcelona), Google+ (World SB14 Barcelona) and Youtube (www.youtube.com/worldsb14barcelona). Furthermore, a hashtag (#WSB14) allows tagging and following all information relative to this event published on Twitter.

Huge participation success

12/02/2014 - 892 abstracts gathered by the World Sustainable Building Conference Great participative success in abstracts submission for the World Sustainable Building Conference which will take place in Barcelona on the 28th, 29th, and 30th October 2014.

12/02/2014

The Scientific Committee’s expectations have been hugely exceeded and now the Committee faces the task of filtering all communications received before notifying acceptance and requesting full papers.
Proof of the international character of this event is the variety of abstracts received, from 58 countries over the five continents. Europe takes the lead, followed closely by Asia. The important presence from MENA (Middle East and Northern Africa) and American countries – both North America and Latin America - is also noticeable.
It is also important to point out that less than 20% of the abstracts gathered come from Spain. This global number of abstracts does not include those within sessions, with submissions still open until the 1st March.
Below is a detailed list of participating countries (58):
Albania, Algeria, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Swedeen, Switzerland, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay.

Communications received relate to all the thematic areas proposed by the Conference, with those related to Materials and Processes being especially relevant.
Last, but not least, we must highlight that most of the abstracts presented come from Universities. Nevertheless, Investigation Bodies, businesses and Public Administrations are also key participants.
Notification of accepted abstracts will be communicated next 16th April and papers submission will close on 16th June.
The great number of abstracts received guarantees the high quality of those that will be finally chosen and presented, either orally or in a poster, at World SB14 Barcelona.
Thank you all for your participation!

Session submissions still open

12/02/2014 - Even though abstracts submission is now closed, there is another way in which to take part in this important global gathering: the Call for Sessions, aimed at all sector stakeholders.

12/02/2014

This call emerges to seek contributions from building sector stakeholders - professionals, institutions, the industry and public administrations -, becoming key participants of the Roadmap that World SB14 Barcelona proposes and promotes. Taking on innovative dynamics, each of the sessions will focus on a proposal-question that a moderator and four speakers will debate, which will then be discussed and voted by the audience.
This novel formula allows all participants to present a complete session before an active audience, which can take part in the debate, obtaining an answer that will feed the conclusions of the Conference. Preliminary proposals submission deadline will close on 1st March 2014.
