Invitation to participate in SB Challenge 2014
The Sustainable Building Challenge (SB Challenge) process is a featured event at each global SB conference. SB Challenge consists of a display, analysis and comparison of high performance building case studies. In this edition, as a new feature, the actual performance in use of the buildings will be analysed.
As a key feature of the Barcelona World SB Conference in October 2014, SB Challenge will place emphasis on the selection of existing buildings from around the world that can provide information on their actual performance in use, as well as the performance that was predicted at the design stage.
The difference between predicted and actual performance can provide us with an understanding of how fast we are moving towards sustainability.
The use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) will provide objective measures of performance, and comparisons of the predictions with reality will provide results fully compatible with the theme of WSB14, “Are We Moving As Quickly As We Should?” Details are provided in the documents on the website.
- Eligible projects for SB Challenge will have the following characteristics:
- Data is available for the building’s predicted performance, determined at the design stage or at least before occupancy by persons with technical competence
- Data is also available on the actual performance of the building, determined through monitoring after at least two years of occupancy, by persons with technical competence.
- Projects will be screened by region and by building type, to prevent under- or over-representation in any category.

A response will be given in November, after we have reviewed the range of projects submitted and have carried out our screening for regional and building type representation.
